About

The Standards Committee is responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct among Thurrock Council's Members and Co-Opted Members. It advises on and arranges training related to the Members' Code of Conduct and assists councillors in observing it. The committee receives reports on complaints, assesses the effectiveness of the Code of Conduct, and oversees the council's complaint handling arrangements. It also considers referrals of alleged misconduct, advises the Council on conduct-related procedures, and has the power to grant or refuse dispensations for Members to participate in certain matters, hearing appeals against such refusals.
