About

The Wiltshire Police and Crime Panel scrutinises the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire, acting as a critical friend to both support and challenge them. The panel holds significant decision-making powers, including the ability to veto the precept (local police funding) and the appointment of the Chief Constable. It reviews the Commissioner's annual report and Police and Crime Plan, conducts confirmation hearings for senior appointments, and handles functions related to conduct complaints. The panel can also appoint an Acting Commissioner or suspend the Commissioner if they face serious criminal charges.
