The Remuneration Committee of Oxfordshire Council met on Tuesday 12 May 2026. The primary focus of the meeting was the election of the Chair and Deputy Chair for the upcoming council year. The committee also reviewed its procedures for declaring interests.
Election of Chair for the 2026/27 Council Year
The committee was scheduled to consider the election of its Chair for the 2026/27 council year.
Election of Deputy Chair for the 2026/27 Council Year
The election of a Deputy Chair for the 2026/27 council year was also on the agenda.
Declarations of Interest
The committee was provided with information regarding the declaration of interests by councillors. This included guidance on disclosable pecuniary interests, which relate to a councillor's employment, sponsorship, contracts, land, licenses, corporate tenancies, and securities. The guidance also outlined the process for declaring other registrable interests, such as unpaid directorships or membership in bodies exercising public functions, charitable purposes, or influencing public opinion. Furthermore, the committee was reminded of the rules surrounding non-registrable interests, which affect a councillor's financial interest or wellbeing, or that of a relative or close associate. The guidance stipulated that councillors must withdraw from discussions and voting if their interests are affected to a greater extent than the majority of inhabitants in the affected ward, and if a reasonable member of the public would believe it would affect their view of the wider public interest.
The members of the Remuneration Committee scheduled to attend were Councillor Liz Leffman (Leader of the Council), Councillor Neil Fawcett (Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Resources), Councillor Liz Brighouse OBE (Leader of the Opposition Group Labour & Cooperative), Councillor Andy Graham, Councillor James Robertshaw (Shadow Cabinet Member for Adults), Colm Ó Caomhánaigh, and Councillor James Barlow.
The meeting was scheduled to take place in the Council Chamber at County Hall, New Road, Oxford OX1 1ND. The Chief Executive, Martin Reeves, provided the notice for the meeting in May 2026. The Committee Officer for Democratic Services was available for any queries.
