Summary
The Council of Gravesham met on Tuesday, 18 June 2024, to discuss various matters, including a moment of silence for former Councillors Glen Handley and Kenneth Jones, public questions, and the adoption of committee minutes.
Glen Handley and Kenneth Jones
The meeting began with a moment of silence in memory of Glen Handley and Kenneth Jones, former Councillors of the Council, who had recently passed away.
Public Question on Climate Change Policies
Michael Hughes submitted a question challenging the Council's climate change policies, arguing that man-made CO2 emissions have minimal impact and that efforts to mitigate CO2 are financially unsustainable. He asked if the Council would refuse central government policies that negatively impact people's lives. Councillor John Burden, Leader of the Council, responded that the Council follows the evidence set out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and does not consider climate change policies to be unjust or restrictive of freedoms. Therefore, the Council will not refuse central government policies on this issue.

- Planning Committee held on Tuesday, 30 April 2024
