Summary
The Charnwood Borough Council meeting on 17 June 2024 saw the appointment of a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, a vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor, and the approval of political balance arrangements and committee appointments for the 2024/25 Council year.
Appointment of Mayor
Councillor Julie Bradshaw MBE was elected Mayor of Charnwood for the 2024/25 Council year. Councillor Beverley Gray, who proposed the motion, highlighted Councillor Bradshaw's numerous achievements, including her world records in swimming and her dedication to charity work. Councillor Bradshaw has been a Councillor in Charnwood since 2011 and has been recognised for her contributions to the community and her professional career as a psychotherapist and life coach. The motion was seconded by Councillor Bokor and was unanimously approved.
Vote of Thanks to Retiring Mayor
The Council expressed its gratitude to Councillor Margaret Smidowicz for her service as Mayor over the past year. Councillor Baines and Councillor Hamilton praised her for attending 288 events, raising funds for charity, and her active involvement in various community activities. The Council also extended thanks to Mr Tim Baum for his support as Mayor’s Consort. The motion was unanimously approved.
Appointment of Deputy Mayor
Councillor Northage was elected Deputy Mayor for the 2024/25 Council year. The motion was proposed by Councillor Sandie Forrest, seconded by Councillor Bokor, and unanimously approved.
Political Balance and Appointment to Committees for 2024/25
The Council approved the political balance arrangements and made appointments to committees for the 2024/25 Council year. The appointments included the positions of Chair and Vice-chair where applicable. Councillor Blackshaw was nominated as Charnwood Borough Council’s representative on the Police and Crime Panel, with Councillor Miah as a substitute. Councillors Sarah Goode, Sarah Monk, and David Infield were appointed to the Housing Management Advisory Board.
