Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Melton and are not the council. About us
The Melton Council Planning Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday 18 June 2026 to consider three planning applications. These include proposals for new dwellings in Old Dalby and Saxelbye, as well as a householder extension in Melton Mowbray.
New Dwellings in Old Dalby
The committee is set to consider an application for the demolition of the existing farmhouse at North Lodge, Longcliffe Hill, Old Dalby and the erection of two replacement dwellings. The report pack indicates that while the site is located outside the defined village development limits, the surrounding area has seen significant new housing development, leading officers to consider that the existing settlement boundary may now be out of date. The proposal is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, with the report noting that the existing farmhouse is in poor structural condition and has been subject to previous planning approval for demolition and replacement.
Conversion of Websters Dairy in Saxelbye
A further application scheduled for discussion concerns the conversion of redundant dairy buildings at Websters Dairy, 5 Main Street, Saxelbye into five dwellings. This proposal has been deferred from a previous meeting to allow for further information to be provided, including comments from the Conservation Officer and a road safety audit. The report pack indicates that the site is recognised as a non-designated heritage asset and that the proposed conversion would secure its longevity. The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, with the report addressing concerns raised regarding highway safety, parking, and the scale of the development.
Householder Extension in Melton Mowbray
Finally, the committee will consider an application for a two-storey rear extension and demolition of an outbuilding at 25 Norfolk Drive, Melton Mowbray. The report pack states that the scheme has been amended to address concerns regarding neighbouring amenity and highway safety. The proposal is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, with the report concluding that the design and scale of the extension are considered appropriate for the established residential area and would not result in unacceptable harm to neighbouring properties. The report also notes that biodiversity enhancement measures are to be secured by condition.
