The Health Scrutiny Committee of Derbyshire Council met on Tuesday 1 September 2026 to discuss the annual report of the Child Death Overview Panel, the implementation of the Derbyshire Dementia Strategy, and initiatives to encourage healthy lifestyles. Annual Report of the Child Death Overview Panel

The committee was scheduled to consider the Annual Report of the Derby and Derbyshire Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) for 2024-2025. The report details the role of the CDOP in identifying learning from child deaths to prevent future fatalities. It was intended to highlight key findings from the report, including themes related to palliative care provision and invasive Group A Streptococcus infections. The report also outlined achievements of the Child Death Review Team and CDOP, such as training initiatives and the development of safety strategies for babies.

Derbyshire Dementia Strategy Implementation

An update was scheduled on the implementation of the Joint Derbyshire and Derby Dementia Strategy 2025-2030. The report was expected to detail progress against the Year 2 Dementia and Delirium Programme objectives for 2026/27. Key areas of focus included maintaining dementia diagnosis rates, reducing waiting times for Memory Assessment Services, expanding diagnosis pathways, and strengthening co-production with individuals living with dementia and their carers. The report was also to cover progress in delirium awareness, addressing health inequalities, and developing future service models, including technology-enabled care and housing initiatives.

Active Partners Trust

The committee was scheduled to receive an overview of the work undertaken by Active Partners Trust, also known as Active Derbyshire, to promote healthy lifestyle options for residents. This included information on initiatives such as Making our Move, a shared plan for movement and physical activity, and Walk Derbyshire, which aims to make walking a daily norm. The report was also expected to detail the activities of the Derbyshire Physical Activity Collaborative, which supports people with long-term health conditions to be more active.

Work Programme 2026/27

The committee was scheduled to consider its work programme for the 2026/27 period. This included a review of upcoming topics such as updates from Healthwatch Derbyshire, discussions on outpatient services at Buxton and Cavendish Hospital sites, urgent care, podiatry clinics, and mental health rehabilitation services. Future agenda items were also to include stroke rehabilitation, the future of Healthwatch Derbyshire, and the implementation of the Food Plan for Derbyshire. The report also listed other items for consideration, including the transfer of immunisations and vaccines to the Integrated Care Board (ICB), mental health crisis support, and Long COVID initiatives.
