The Court of Aldermen convened on Tuesday 15 September 2026, with The Lady Mayor taking the Chair. The meeting's agenda included the confirmation of previous minutes, consideration of resolutions on retirements and congratulations, applications for the Freedom of the City, and a report from the General Purposes Committee of Aldermen.
Applications for the Freedom of the City
A significant portion of the scheduled discussion involved applications for the Freedom of the City. The Chamberlain presented a list of two hundred and seventeen individuals who were to be admitted to this honour. The report pack provided a detailed table listing each applicant, their occupation, address, and the Livery Company or Guild they were associated with. These included a wide array of professions, from business consultants and engineers to academics and retired military personnel.
Resolutions on Retirements, Congratulatory Resolutions, and Memorials
The court was scheduled to consider various resolutions. Notably, congratulations were to be offered to Alderman Sir Alastair King DL on his recent appointment as a Knight Bachelor, in recognition of his services to pensions reform, the promotion of international business, and voluntary and charitable services. Further congratulations were to be extended to him on his appointment as His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London and as Professor in Practice in International Trade at St George's, University of London.
Report of the General Purposes Committee of Aldermen
The agenda also included a report from the General Purposes Committee of Aldermen. However, the provided documents indicate that There was no report
from this committee.
Letters of Surrender of Office
Additionally, the Town Clerk was to lay before the Court letters of surrender of office from two Aldermen. Alderman the Honourable Tim Levene offered to surrender his office as Alderman of the Ward of Bridge and Bridge Without, and Alderman Alexander Barr offered to surrender his office as Alderman of the Ward of Cordwainer.
