The Planning Committee of Barnet Council is scheduled to consider two planning applications at its meeting on Wednesday 28 October 2026. These include a proposal for an outdoor play area at a day nursery in East Finchley and extensions to a nursing home in High Barnet.
Langley House, Park Road, London N2 8EY
The committee is scheduled to review a proposal for a change of use of part of the existing office car park at Langley House, Park Road, London N2 8EY, to an outdoor play area for a day nursery. This would involve the construction of a new timber fence, surfacing, and a bin store. The report pack indicates that planning officers' initial recommendation was to refuse this application, citing concerns about unacceptable levels of noise and disturbance to neighbouring residential properties, and the loss of parking provision leading to potential highway network issues. However, the application was previously deferred by the committee for further consideration. The report pack also includes representations from local residents expressing concerns about noise, loss of amenity, and parking, alongside support for the nursery's need for outdoor space. Councillor Alison Moore has called in the application, citing concerns about the disparity between the applicant's acoustic analysis and the Environmental Health team's assessment, as well as questions about traffic and parking impacts.
Abbey Ravenscroft Park Nursing Home, Ravenscroft Park, Barnet EN5 4ND
The committee is also scheduled to consider a proposal for part single-storey, part two-storey side and rear extensions, along with associated internal alterations, at Abbey Ravenscroft Park Nursing Home, 1-6 Ravenscroft Park, Barnet EN5 4ND. The aim of these extensions is to provide 18 additional bedrooms within the existing nursing home. The report pack indicates that planning officers are recommending approval for this application, subject to conditions. The proposal has attracted objections from local residents and the Monken Hadley & Wood St Conservation Area Advisory Committee, who have raised concerns about the continued expansion of the nursing home, potential harm to the character and appearance of the Wood Street Conservation Area, increased overlooking, loss of amenity, traffic generation, and parking issues. The report pack notes that the nursing home provides complex nursing and dementia care, for which there is an identified undersupply in the borough, and that the Care Quality Commission has rated the home as Good
. The Highways Officer has raised no objections, noting that the uplift in units would not represent an intensification of use or a perceivable impact on the surrounding highway network. Conditions are recommended to address construction management, tree protection, cycle parking, and biodiversity net gain.
