The Council of Southend-on-Sea convened on Thursday 13 June 2024. The meeting primarily focused on the appointments of Chairs and Vice-Chairs for Scrutiny Committees. The Conservative group withdrew their nominations, and the remaining nominations were agreed upon without opposition.
Appointments of Chairs and Vice-Chairs for Scrutiny Committees
The main agenda item was the appointment of Chairs and Vice-Chairs for the Scrutiny Committees. The Conservative group announced their decision to withdraw their nominations. A representative stated, we're not going to take part in something that we feel is profoundly undemocratic,
and subsequently, all opposition groups left the Chamber.
With only one set of nominations remaining, the Council agreed to these appointments without further debate. This decision concluded the business of the meeting.
