Traffic Regulation Order for College Close and Canada Street, Heaviley
The committee considered a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) for College Close and Canada Street in Heaviley. This order proposed No Waiting at Any Time
restrictions on specific sections of both roads to improve traffic flow and safety. The proposed restrictions included:
- On the north-west side of College Close, from the north-eastern kerb line of Canada Street for a distance of 6 metres in a north-easterly direction.
- On the south-east side of College Close, from the north-eastern kerb line of Canada Street for a distance of 5 metres in a north-easterly direction.
- On the north-east side of Canada Street, from a point 5 metres north-west of the north-western kerb line of College Close in a south-easterly direction to a point 5 metres south-east of the south-eastern kerb line of College Close.
Recommendation for 20mph Speed Limit Zone in Hazel Grove (Carisbrooke)
The committee considered a report on the findings of a public consultation for an Integrated Transport Block funded 20mph speed limit zone in the Carisbrooke residential estate, north of Jacksons Lane in Hazel Grove. The report detailed the results of the consultation, which showed a split in opinion, with 66% agreeing with the proposals and 30% disagreeing. Key issues raised by residents included concerns about speeding, the effectiveness of the proposals for encouraging walking and cycling, waste of public money, and enforcement.
The report noted that evidence from around the world suggests lower vehicle speeds make people feel more comfortable walking and cycling, creating safer streets. It also addressed concerns about enforcement, stating that speed cushions are self-enforcing, and speed limits are enforceable by the police.
The committee was asked to provide a recommendation to the Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways and Transport Services on whether to approve the legal advertising of the Traffic Regulation Orders. The report recommended that the proposals remain unchanged.
Ward Flexibility Funding for Stockport LGBT+ Centre CIC
The committee considered an application from Stockport LGBT+ Centre CIC for Ward Flexibility Funding. A grant of £141 was requested towards the cost of hosting the ‘Fabulously Me’ event, which would be held at a central, accessible location in Stockport. The Stockport LGBT+ Centre CIC is a community interest company that provides support and services to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community in Stockport. 1
