The Licensing Sub-Committee (1) of Westminster Council met on Thursday 13 June 2024 to discuss licensing applications for several establishments. Key decisions included the approval of a new licence for Homeslice Pizza and the rejection of an application for extended hours at 353 Harrow Road.
Homeslice Pizza Licensing Application
The committee approved a new licence for Homeslice Pizza, which will allow the restaurant to operate at its new location in Westminster. The decision followed a detailed discussion on the potential impact on the local community. Concerns were raised about noise and late-night disturbances, but these were mitigated by the restaurant's commitment to close by 11 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. A representative for Homeslice Pizza assured the committee that they would implement soundproofing measures and employ additional security staff to manage any potential issues.
Councillor Jane Smith noted, The measures proposed by Homeslice Pizza show a clear commitment to being a responsible member of the community.
353 Harrow Road Licensing Application
The application for extended operating hours at 353 Harrow Road was rejected. The applicant sought to extend the closing time from 11 pm to 2 am. Local residents and business owners expressed strong opposition, citing concerns about increased noise, litter, and anti-social behaviour. The committee agreed that the potential negative impact on the community outweighed the benefits of extended hours.
One resident, John Doe, stated, Allowing this extension would disrupt our lives and degrade the quality of our neighbourhood.
75 Dean Street Licensing Application
The committee also reviewed an application for 75 Dean Street, which sought to modify its existing licence to include live music performances. The decision was deferred pending further consultation with local residents and businesses. The committee requested additional information on how the venue plans to manage noise levels and ensure compliance with existing regulations.
Public Participation
Several members of the public attended the meeting and voiced their opinions on the various applications. The committee emphasised the importance of community input in the decision-making process and encouraged ongoing dialogue between residents and business owners.
