Planning Committee - Thursday 25th September, 2025 7.00 pm
The Planning Committee of Barnet Council met to discuss several planning applications, including tree preservation orders and building conversions. Councillors voted to approve a tree preservation order, and an application for a front extension, but refused an application to remove protected trees. A decision on the conversion of a barn into a dwelling was deferred until the next meeting.
Overview and Scrutiny Committee - Thursday 11th September, 2025 7.00 pm
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee met to discuss several key issues, including domestic abuse strategy, community safety, waste management, and the Capita contract. The committee agreed to recommend that ward councillors are included in appropriate meetings regarding safety concerns in their ward, with an emphasis on dialogue. They also requested clarification on wording in the household recycling and waste policies, and that pensions are specifically considered in decisions about the Capita contract.
Strategic Planning Committee - Thursday 4th September, 2025 7.00 pm
At a meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee, Barnet Council resolved to approve plans for a new hotel in West Finchley, and for reserved matters relating to a residential development adjacent to Finchley Memorial Hospital. The committee agreed to conditions for the Shakespeare Road development relating to public realm improvements, fenestration, and vehicle servicing, and for the Finchley Memorial Hospital development relating to urban design and secure design.
Licensing Sub-Committee - Thursday 14th August, 2025 10.30 am
The Licensing Sub-Committee granted a new premises licence with amendments to Vsands Trading Ltd, allowing them to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises between 10:00 and 23:00, with extended hours until 01:00 on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve/Day and bank holidays; and to open to the public between 07:00 and 23:30, with extended hours until 01:00 on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve/Day and bank holidays. The decision followed a hearing where concerns were raised by a local resident regarding potential crime and disorder. Several conditions were added to the licence to address these concerns.
Strategic Planning Committee - Wednesday 23rd July, 2025 7.00 pm, NEW
The Strategic Planning Committee of Barnet Council approved an outline planning application for the redevelopment of the Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Edgware, including the bus station, bus garage, Redhill Clinic and Deansbrook Nature Reserve. The decision is subject to referral to the Mayor of London and a Section 106 agreement. A motion to defer the application was rejected.
