Councillor Cumar Sahathevan

The Council decided to approve recommendations regarding the establishment of standing committees, regulatory committees, local committees, and other bodies. This included electing Councillor Barry Lewis as Leader and Councillor Sam Martin as Deputy Leader. The Council also agreed to amend the Members' Allowances Scheme to provide the full Special Responsibility Allowance to the leader of each recognised opposition group.

The Council of Sutton Council approved recommendations on 26/05/2026 regarding membership of Party Groups, their Leaders, and Deputy Leaders. This included listing members for the Liberal Democrat group and the Reform UK, Labour Coop, and Independent Group.

The Council of Sutton Council noted the outcome of the Code of Conduct Hearing Panel on 02 March 2026. The panel found Councillor Sheldon Vestey breached the Code of Conduct by failing to issue an apology and undertake required training. Councillor Vestey was censured for failing to undertake training and was required to complete it within three weeks.

The Council of Sutton Council decided to approve the motion. The Council placed on record its grateful thanks to Councillor Louise Phelan for her service as Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton during the past municipal year on 02/03/2026.
