The Homes and Communities Scrutiny Committee reviews the performance of local services related to housing, community safety, and culture, scrutinising decisions and policy development to improve service delivery for Islington residents. It acts as a critical friend, offering constructive challenge to ensure services are effective and efficient, and considers the needs of local people, promoting equalities and best practice.
The committee has oversight of functions including housing estates, repairs and safety, homelessness, the private rented sector, landlord services, voluntary and community groups, community learning, food provision, culture, heritage, and libraries. Three non-voting resident observers, representing tenants and leaseholders, are appointed to ensure their views are heard.
