Salford City Council’s Cabinet - Tuesday 25 June 2024
This week, the Cabinet meeting saw significant decisions on urban planning and infrastructure. The Cabinet approved the adoption of the Salford City Liveable Neighbourhoods Programme, the implementation of School Streets at four schools, and the development of a strategy for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
Salford Liveable Neighbourhoods Programme
The Salford City Liveable Neighbourhoods Programme aims to improve residential streets by enhancing road safety, reducing traffic levels, and encouraging walking and cycling. School Streets
The Cabinet approved the implementation of School Streets at four schools: St. Mary's CE Primary School, Eccles, The Friars Primary School, Salford, St. Thomas's CE Primary School, Salford, and Light Oaks School, Salford. These streets will be closed to traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times to create safer environments for children. The initiative is funded by £100,000 from the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund.
Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Strategy
The Cabinet also agreed to develop a strategy for EV charging infrastructure, considering the location, cost, and types of charging points. Councillor Green emphasized the need for comprehensive planning to support the transition to electric vehicles, particularly for residents in flats without off-street parking.
Licensing Panel Premises Committee - Thursday 27 June 2024
The Licensing Panel Premises committee granted a new premises licence for the Eagle Inn with conditions to address noise concerns raised by a local resident. The conditions include a noise management system, a dispersal policy, and the appointment of a designated premises supervisor. This decision aligns with the council’s Statement of Licensing Policy.
Workforce Panel - Tuesday 25 June 2024
The Workforce Panel discussed the Workforce Strategy 2023-27, focusing on workforce planning amidst challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic, Brexit, and the cost of living crisis. Council Meeting - Wednesday 15 May 2024
