The Chief Officers Employment Committee of Cornwall Council met on Monday 18 May 2026. The primary item scheduled for discussion was the recruitment of a Strategic Director for Together for Families, also known as the Director for Children's Services. The meeting also included provisions for considering urgent business and the potential exclusion of the press and public.
Recruitment of Strategic Director for Together for Families
The committee was scheduled to discuss the recruitment process for the Strategic Director for Together for Families, also referred to as the Director for Children's Services. This discussion formed Part 2
of the recruitment process. The report pack indicated that Appendix 5, a shortlisting pack for the role, was to be provided. The agenda documents note that this item was marked as exempt from publication due to containing information relating to individuals, with a public interest test having been conducted. The Local Government Act 1972 governs the exclusion of the public and press in such circumstances.
The committee's agenda also included standard procedural items such as apologies for absence and declarations of interest. Additionally, there were provisions for Any Other Business that the Chairman Considers to be of Urgency,
with the understanding that such items would require a formal written report and a clear explanation of the special circumstances making them urgent, as stipulated by the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1972.
The meeting was scheduled to take place in the Trelawny Room at County Hall, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 3AY. The committee membership included representatives from the Liberal Democrat, Reform UK, Independent, Conservative, and Green Party groups.
