The Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC) met on Thursday 11 June 2026 to discuss the financial outturn for the 2025/26 financial year, potential improvements to local play areas, and the allocation of the Pride in Place Impact Fund. The committee also reviewed its work programme.
Boston Town Board Update
The committee was scheduled to receive a verbal report from Claire Foster, Interim Chair of the Boston Town Board.
Pride in Place Impact Fund
A report by Maria Cotton, Service Director – Culture & Regeneration, was presented for consideration regarding the Pride in Place Impact Fund. Boston Borough Council has received £1.5 million from Central Government to support enhancements that boost local community pride, wellbeing, and identity. The fund aims to support projects focused on community spaces, public spaces, and high street and town centre revitalisation. The report outlined proposed programme structures and priority themes, with a particular focus on how investment in Boston town centre could be strengthened through partnership working and potential match funding. The committee was asked to note the proposed priorities, consider where its own resources could align, and provide feedback on desired town centre projects for potential joint investment.
2025/26 Draft Outturn Financial Position
Russell Stone, Executive Director – Finance (Section 151 Officer), presented a report on the draft financial position for BTAC for the 2025/26 financial year, ending 31 March 2026. The report indicated a draft outturn underspend of £104,153, which was to be transferred to the BTAC reserve. The projected reserve balance as of 31 March 2026 was £396,788. The committee was recommended to note these figures. Detailed breakdowns of expenditure across various service areas, including Open Spaces & Play Areas, Allotments, Central Park, Public Conveniences, Events, Town Centre Maintenance, and Administration, were provided.
BTAC Play Area Improvements 'Aspirations'
Victoria Burgess, Service Director – Neighbourhoods, presented a report detailing the 'aspirations' for potential improvements identified during a tour of BTAC-managed open spaces and play facilities on 25 September 2025. The report highlighted proposals for enhancing accessibility, inclusivity, and environmental value across various sites, including Woodville Row Play Park, Broadfield Lane, St John's Road Park, Burgess Pit, Sheltons Field, and Central Park. The committee was asked to prioritise which of these proposed improvements should be progressed to full costing, with officers exploring funding opportunities. The report also included detailed information on the costs associated with play area improvements, safety surfacing, footpaths, and environmental enhancements.
Work Programme
The committee was scheduled to discuss and potentially update its work programme for the current year. The report, presented by the Service Director – Leisure and Local Services, outlined planned agenda items for future meetings, including updates on the Boston Town Board, financial positions, BTAC assets, the Pride in Place Impact Fund, and the Community Governance Review. A pending addition to the work programme was the consideration of skate/bike park provision.
