The Barnet Council Cabinet met on Tuesday 21 July 2026 to discuss a range of important issues, including the council's financial forecast, the Barnet Youth Strategy, and updates on major regeneration projects. Key decisions included the adoption of new national Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) standards.
The meeting addressed a significant financial forecast, revealing an overspend of £2.621 million at Quarter 1, necessitating a reliance on Exceptional Financial Support (EFS) from the government. Despite this, the council managed to reduce its forecast EFS requirement by £6 million. Discussions also covered the Barnet Youth Strategy, a 10-year plan developed through extensive consultation with young people and partners, aiming to improve opportunities and the youth offer across the borough. Major regeneration projects, including Brent Cross and Dollis Valley Phases 4 & 5, were also discussed, with decisions made regarding land sales and the acquisition of affordable homes. Furthermore, the Cabinet reviewed the Annual Landlord Services Complaints Performance and Service Improvement Report, noting a reduction in complaints per completed repair job and an increase in overall tenant satisfaction. Finally, updates were provided on the Finchley Leisure Centre revised outline business case, the modification and extension of the Pan-London Sexual Health and Contraceptive e-Service Contract, and works at Oakleigh Depot.
