The Grants Determination Subcommittee meeting was held on Wednesday 17 January 2024, with a key outcome being the noting of voluntary community sector funding awarded under delegated authority. The subcommittee also formally agreed the recommendations from a previous meeting held on 8 November 2023.
Voluntary Community Sector Funding
The subcommittee noted a report detailing voluntary community sector (VCS) funding awarded under delegated authority since the last report. This included £29,000 in emergency grants to three organisations facing urgent situations due to the loss of council funding. These organisations were Citizens Business, Emic Close Senior Citizens Club, and Bike Works.
Additionally, a community benefit rent reduction was awarded to Pollyanna Training Theatre, a drama organisation based in Wapping. This scheme was established by Tower Hamlets Council to recognise the value of the work undertaken by VCS organisations by offering a reduction in the rent they pay for council premises. The report provided further details on this community benefit rent reduction scheme in paragraph 3.2. The decisions regarding this funding were made under emergency award provisions.
