The Appointments Panel of the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council met on Wednesday 5 August 2026. The primary item scheduled for discussion was the interview process for the Chief Executive (Head of Paid Service) position. The panel was also scheduled to review members' declarations of interest.
Chief Executive (Head of Paid Service) Interviews
The meeting's agenda included interviews for the role of Chief Executive (Head of Paid Service). The report pack outlined the purpose of this role, which is to provide strong strategic leadership to support delivery of the Council's agenda
and effectively manage the Council's staff and resources to achieve the highest possible performance to deliver the Council's objectives for the local community and stakeholders.
The report also detailed the main duties associated with the position, including providing strategic leadership, ensuring effective corporate management, leading partnership working, and acting as the lead advisor to the Council. The person specification for the role highlighted the need for substantial leadership experience at a senior strategic level, strong communication skills, sound financial management, and a commitment to service excellence and local democracy. The report pack indicated that interviews were scheduled to take place, but did not provide any information on the outcomes of these interviews.
Members' Interests
The panel was scheduled to address declarations of interest from its members. This process is guided by the Council's Constitution and Code of Conduct. The report pack provided definitions for personal and financial interests, outlining the procedures for members to declare these interests at the start of the meeting or when they become apparent. It was noted that members with a personal interest may remain in the meeting and participate, unless the business affects their financial position or relates to specific approvals or licences. However, members with a financial interest are required to leave the meeting, though they may make representations before doing so. The report also directed members to a list of their council-appointed memberships on outside bodies and joint committees, which was available online.
