The Appointments Panel is scheduled to convene on Wednesday 5 August 2026 to consider the appointment of a new Chief Executive for the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The meeting will also include a review of councillors' memberships on outside bodies and joint committees, and the declaration of any personal or financial interests.

Chief Executive Interviews

The panel is scheduled to conduct interviews for the position of Chief Executive (Head of Paid Service). The role of Chief Executive is a senior strategic position responsible for providing leadership to support the delivery of the Council's agenda, managing staff and resources, and ensuring high-quality advice is provided to elected Members. The job description outlines the need for substantial leadership experience at a senior strategic level, strong financial management skills, and a commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be expected to represent the Council and promote its best interests in partnership work, as well as keep Council services under review to achieve balanced budgets and implement policies. The Chief Executive reports directly to the Leader of the Council, Councillor Anthony Okereke.

Members' Interests

A key item on the agenda is the consideration of members' interests. The panel is scheduled to note the list of councillors' memberships on outside bodies and joint committees. Councillors are expected to declare any personal or financial interests they may have in relation to the items under discussion. The report pack details the definitions of personal and financial interests as outlined in the Council's Code of Conduct. A personal interest is defined as any business that is likely to affect a member, or a relevant person or body, more than it affects the majority of people in the ward represented by the councillor. A financial interest is where any business relates to or is likely to affect an interest set out in paragraph 18 of the Code of Conduct. Members with a personal interest may stay, speak, and vote, unless the business affects their financial position or relates to a financial approval, consent, licence, permission, or registration. Those with a financial interest must leave the meeting but may attend to make representations, answer questions, or give evidence.
