Hackney's Cabinet is scheduled to convene on Monday 26 October 2026. The meeting agenda includes discussions on the borough's financial position and its long-term transport strategy, the Council's climate implementation plan, and capital investment proposals.
Overall Financial Position - August 2026
The Cabinet is scheduled to receive an update on the Council's overall financial position as of August 2026. A report from Councillor Florence Schechter, Cabinet Member for Finance, Resident Services and Digital, is expected to detail a forecasted overspend of £6.414 million on the General Fund, attributed to cost pressures in delivering children's services and environmental operations, alongside the continuing high demand for adult social care. The report will also present an updated Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP), indicating an estimated budget gap of £21.519 million by the end of the 2029/30 financial year. The Cabinet is expected to be asked to note the overall financial position and the updated MTFP.
Public Consultation on Draft 10 Year Transport Strategy
Councillor Jacob Cable, Cabinet Member for Climate, Clean Air, Energy and Transport, is scheduled to present a report on the public consultation for Hackney's draft 10-year Transport Strategy (2026-2036). This strategy aims to update existing plans and targets to address the role of transport in the climate emergency, with a planned reduction in traffic levels. The report outlines that an initial public consultation round was carried out in early 2025 on the proposed key themes, and deliberative engagement on a proposed Main Roads Strategy was conducted later that year. The next step is to approve the draft strategy for a three-month public consultation period, commencing in November 2026. The aim is to gather comments from the public and stakeholders to revise the strategy before its final submission to Full Council for approval in summer 2027.
October 2026 Capital Update and Property Disposals and Acquisitions Report
Councillor Florence Schechter, Cabinet Member for Finance, Resident Services and Digital, is scheduled to present an update on the capital programme. Key proposals include seeking approval for grant applications and acceptance of up to £547 million in funding through the Government's Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS) to carry out essential Cladding Remediation Works across Council-owned homes. The report also seeks approval to carry out works to bring the vacant Old Holmleigh school site to a safe standard for occupation, with a lease to be granted to the Children Ahead Education Charity for SEND provision. Furthermore, the Cabinet is scheduled to consider a proposal to acquire 96 temporary accommodation units to address the housing crisis and mitigate reliance on costly nightly-paid providers.

Councillor Jacob Cable, Cabinet Member for Climate, Clean Air, Energy and Transport, is scheduled to present the Council Climate Implementation Plan (CIP) for 2026-2030. This plan sets out the Council's roadmap for tackling the climate emergency, building on previous work and addressing identified gaps. The report includes the seventh annual update on progress made against the Council's climate commitments during Year 3 (2025/26), detailing completed actions and those carried forward to the next phase. The Cabinet is scheduled to be asked to approve the new CIP 2026-2030.
