The North East Scotland Agriculture Advisory Group met on Wednesday 10 September 2025, to hear presentations on Farmlay Eggs and Developing the Young Workforce, and to receive an industry report.
Farmlay Eggs
Robert Chapman from Farmlay Eggs in Strichen, Aberdeenshire, was scheduled to give a presentation to the advisory group, outlining the successes and challenges faced by the business.
Developing the Young Workforce
Andrew Ritchie, Aberdeenshire Council Developing the Young Workforce Lead Officer, was scheduled to give a presentation on delivering positive outcomes for young people, employers and communities, focusing on Foundation Apprenticeships1.
Public Sector Equality Duty
The committee was asked to consider the Public Sector Equality Duty2, specifically regarding the need to:
- eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
- advance equality of opportunity
- foster good relations between those who share a protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.
The Public reports pack included guidance for members on how to discharge their duty, stating that:
To 'have due regard' means that in making decisions, Members must consciously consider the need to do the three things set out above. This requires a conscious approach and state of mind. The duty must influence the final decision.

Foundation Apprenticeships are part of the Developing the Young Workforce programme, which aims to better prepare young people for the world of work. They are work-based learning qualifications for secondary school pupils. ↩
