Budget Council, Council - Thursday 5th March, 2026 7.00 pm

The Council of Barnet met on Thursday 5th March 2026 to discuss and approve the budget for the upcoming financial year, alongside a review of council rents and service charges. Key decisions included the approval of a 2.98% increase in general council tax and a 2% increase for the Adult Social Care precept, alongside the adoption of the Medium Term Financial Strategy for 2026-2031. The council also agreed to extend the appointment of Eamon McGoldrick as Chair of the Barnet Group Board.

Council - Tuesday 27th January, 2026 7.00 pm

The Council of the London Borough of Barnet met on Tuesday 27 January 2026, with the meeting being held at Hendon Town Hall. The meeting saw the successful passage of a motion to welcome the reintroduction of weekly separate food waste collections, a commitment made in the Barnet Labour manifesto. Councillors also debated and passed a motion to develop a dedicated substance misuse strategy for care-experienced children and young people, following tragic deaths suspected to be related to drug misuse.

Extraordinary Council, Council - Tuesday 2nd December, 2025 7.00 pm

The extraordinary meeting of Barnet Council was called to discuss a motion regarding secrecy and failures in corporate parenting following the deaths of three care-experienced young people. The council agreed to strengthen briefing protocols for members and ensure that all corporate parents are immediately informed of any event involving looked-after young persons which may reasonably be expected to require an inquest. An amendment to the motion calling for the resignation of the Leader of the Council and the Cabinet Member for Family Friendly Barnet was rejected.

Planning Committee - Thursday 23rd October, 2025 7.00 pm

The Planning Committee of Barnet Council met to discuss several planning applications, including a deferred application for Windmill Cottage, a new warehouse, a car park redevelopment, and an extension to a property on Birkbeck Road. The committee approved the conversion of a barn into a dwelling at Windmill Cottage, approved the construction of a new warehouse on Hampden Road, and approved the installation of an awning on Hodford Road, but refused an application for a car park redevelopment on Castle Road.

Council - Tuesday 21st October, 2025 7.00 pm

The Council meeting on Tuesday 21 October 2025 began with tributes to former councillors Vanessa Gearson and Agnes Slocum, followed by a minute's silence for victims of terrorism. The meeting then moved to discuss Barnet's high streets and public engagement in major developments, with decisions made to provide written responses and prepare reports on these matters. Several motions were debated and voted upon, including those concerning action for high streets, support for terminally ill residents, and the removal of hostage posters. The Council also approved changes to committee memberships and meeting dates, and noted exceptions to call-in decisions. Finally, the Council discussed and approved bylaws for flood risk management, noted the annual report of the Local Pension Board, and reviewed treasury management outturn.
