The Scrutiny Management Board of North Northamptonshire Council is scheduled to meet on Tuesday 16 June 2026. The meeting's agenda includes the establishment of a Task and Finish Panel to support the development of the Local Transport Plan and the review of the Scrutiny Work Programme for 2026/27.
Establishment of Task and Finish Panel - Local Transport Plan
A key item for discussion is the proposed establishment of a Task and Finish Panel to support the development of the North Northamptonshire Local Transport Plan (LTP). This plan is a statutory document required under the Transport Act 2000, which will outline the council's transport vision, policies, priorities, and investment framework for future years. The panel would comprise members from the Place and Environment Scrutiny Committee and the wider scrutiny membership to ensure cross-party engagement and challenge throughout the LTP's development. The panel will operate as a time-limited scrutiny body, reporting its findings and recommendations to the Place and Environment Scrutiny Committee, the Executive, and other relevant bodies. The report highlights that this is an extraordinary meeting called to expedite the approval and recruitment to the panel, to avoid delays in the LTP timetable.
Scrutiny Work Programme 2026/27
The Board will also consider the first draft of the Scrutiny Work Programme for 2026/27. This programme guides the work of the council's four Scrutiny Committees. The report outlines that work programmes have been drafted for three of the four committees, with the Children, Young Persons and Education Scrutiny Committee's programme still in development. The Board will review the Executive Forward Plan for July to September 2026 to identify any items for pre-scrutiny. The report also mentions the ongoing trial of a new assessment and prioritisation tool designed to manage the flow of items to scrutiny committees, aiming to ensure that meetings are not overloaded and that items are of a strategic rather than operational nature.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 7:00 pm in the Council Chamber at the Corby Cube, George Street, Corby, NN17 1QG. The meeting will be available for the public to view live on the Democratic Services' YouTube channel.
