The Kingston and North Kingston Neighbourhood Committee approved funding for two community projects and agreed to implement a School Street Scheme at Robin Hood Primary School. The committee also resolved to proceed with the installation of a disabled bay on Clifton Road, despite an objection.

Community Grants Programme

The committee approved two applications for Neighbourhood Community Grants (NCGs). Barnfield Riding for the Disabled received £2,200 to subsidise therapeutic horse-riding sessions for children with disabilities from Dysart Apollo special school. This project aims to improve the physical health, emotional wellbeing, confidence, and social development of these young people.

RBKares was awarded £3,000 for their Warmer in Winter Bags project. This initiative will provide 250 bags containing essential items such as warm clothing, torches, and hot water bottles to vulnerable residents struggling with energy costs. The bags will also include leaflets on mental health support and debt advice. The project benefits not only the recipients but also the volunteers who create the items.

Robin Hood School Street Scheme

The committee approved the implementation of a School Street Scheme at Robin Hood Primary School in Kingston Vale. This scheme will restrict general motor traffic on Bowness Crescent, Windermere Road, and a section of Robin Hood Lane during school drop-off and pick-up times. The aim is to improve air quality, reduce road danger, and encourage active travel. The scheme will be implemented under an Experimental Traffic Management Order (ETMO), allowing for a trial period of 6 to 18 months to monitor its effectiveness and gather community feedback. Exemptions will be in place for residents, those with disabilities, and essential service providers.

Objection to TMO for a disabled bay - Clifton Road

The committee considered an objection to the installation of a disabled bay on Clifton Road. The objection cited concerns about parking capacity, potential congestion, and visibility issues, as well as questioning the primary use of the bay. However, officers noted that the application was from a resident with a blue badge who met the eligibility criteria and that the bay would be available to any blue badge holder. The committee resolved to set aside the objection and approve the implementation of the disabled bay, noting that the council does not allocate disabled bays to individuals but rather designates them for use by any blue badge holder.
