Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Tower Hamlets and are not the council. About us
The King George's Field Charity Board is scheduled to meet on Wednesday 28 October 2026. The meeting's agenda includes a review of the King George's Field Trust's finances and activities, an update on lease arrangements for the Trust's properties, and a discussion on public benefit guidance.
KGFT Finance and Activity Report
The Board is scheduled to consider a report providing an update on the King George's Field Trust's (KGFT) financial forecast for 2026/27. This report will detail anticipated income and expenditure, aiming to demonstrate the Trust's commitment to financial sustainability. It will also summarise the activities delivered across the Trust's assets and facilities during the reporting period, highlighting how the Charity is working towards its objectives of providing accessible recreational facilities and community benefit. Furthermore, the report will include an update on governance matters, confirming the submission of the 2023/24 Annual Report and Accounts to the Charity Commission. A capital funding application to the Council's Capital Delivery Board for the replacement of the Stepney Green Astroturf will also be noted. Finally, the Board is expected to review and approve proposed fees and charges for the Stepney Green Astroturf for 2026/27, which are intended to align with operational costs and market rates.
Leases Update KGFT
An update on the lease arrangements for the King George's Field Trust's (KGFT) retail and rental units is scheduled for discussion. The income generated from these units supports the Charity in maintaining park land and amenities for the benefit of Tower Hamlets residents. The report will provide information on the current situation with Tenant A
regarding arrears and lease arrangements, as well as actions taken concerning Tenant B
. It will also note a lease renewal notice received from Tenant C
under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, and that Tenant D
surrendered their lease on 12 August 2026, with an agent instructed to market the property. Additionally, the Board is expected to review a valuation report and recommendations concerning the rent review for Tenant E
under a lease dated 20 August 2010, and will also receive information on rent reviews for arches in Burdett Road.
Public Benefit Guidance
The Board is scheduled to note the Charity Commission's Public Benefit Guidance. This guidance explains the duties that trustees have when acting for the King George's Field Trust. It outlines the two aspects of public benefit: the 'benefit aspect', which requires the charity's purpose to be demonstrably beneficial and not outweighed by harm, and the 'public aspect', which ensures the benefit is for the public in general or a sufficient section of the public, with no more than incidental personal benefit. Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the King George's Field Mile End Charity and King George's Field – Stepney (Tredegar Square, Bow) charity operate in a way that carries out their purposes for public benefit.
Declarations of Interests
The Board is scheduled to note any declarations of interest made by Members. This includes noting any declarations of interest that restrict Members from voting on questions detailed in Section 106 of the Local Government Finance Act 1992. Members are reminded of their responsibility to declare the nature of any interest and the agenda item it relates to, and to seek advice if they are in doubt.
Minutes of the Previous Meeting(s)
