The Development Control Committee of West Suffolk Council met on Wednesday 5 August 2026 to discuss several planning applications. The committee resolved to refuse planning permission for a proposed solar farm on land south of Knox Lane, Bardwell, due to concerns over landscape impact, noise, landscaping, and the loss of best and most versatile agricultural land. However, they approved a planning application for a supermarket and drive-through restaurant on land north of Rougham Hill, Bury St Edmunds, despite acknowledging a conflict with the council's BREEAM 'Excellent' policy requirement. Finally, permission was granted for the installation of air source heat pumps and a replacement front door at 9 Short Brackland, Bury St Edmunds.
