The Property Sub-Committee of Staffordshire Council approved the grant and completion of 125-year leases for school sites on 15 July 2026. This decision allows for the lease of school sites to academies, including St Elizabeth's Catholic Primary School, Thomas Russell Junior School, and Cooper Perry Primary School. The leases will be granted at a peppercorn rent, with the consent of the Secretary of State for Education required before completion.

The Property Sub-Committee approved recommendations on 17 June 2026. The council will statutorily transfer the freehold of the Tutbury Road school site to Birmingham Roman Catholic Diocesan Trustees Registered and grant a 125-year academy lease of the playing fields to St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Multi-Academy Trust. The council will also acquire the freehold of the former St Modwen's school buildings at Belvoir Road from Birmingham Roman Catholic Diocesan Trustees Registered. Final details of these transactions are delegated to the Assistant Director for Commercial and Assets.
