Taxi & General Licensing Committee

The Taxi and General Licensing Committee is responsible for determining licensing policy and applications for various services within West Northamptonshire.

This committee handles non-executive licensing and registration functions, including those related to health and safety under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. It approves policies for private hire and Hackney carriages, as well as other licensing schemes like street trading and scrap metal licenses, unless these are specifically reserved for the Council or Cabinet. While it has an advisory role on executive matters such as fare setting, it can appoint sub-committees with delegated powers to decide on contested applications and review licences.
