About
The Council is the ultimate decision-making body for Brentwood Borough Council, comprising all 37 elected councillors. It sets the council's overall objectives, major policies, and financial strategies, and considers significant recommendations from other committees. The Council also delegates responsibilities to its committees and agrees their membership.
Key functions exclusively held by the Council include adopting and amending the Constitution and financial regulations, agreeing committee terms of reference, appointing representatives to outside bodies, electing the Leader and Deputy Leader, setting the budget and Council Tax, approving the Corporate Plan and policy framework, and adopting bylaws. It also confirms the appointment of senior officers and handles electoral and ceremonial matters.
