The Surrey County Council is composed of 81 elected Councillors representing the people of Surrey. It establishes the strategic direction for the council's operations by approving the corporate plan, budget, and major policy documents. The Council also elects its Chair and Vice-Chair annually, appoints other committees, and elects and can remove the Leader of the Council. Meetings are generally open to the public but do not allow public participation. The Chair of the Council presides over meetings and serves as the principal civic and ceremonial spokesperson for the council.
