Council

The Melton Council is the primary decision-making body for the borough, responsible for setting the overall strategic direction and legal framework. It approves the Council's policy framework and adopts the annual budget, including setting Council Tax levels and council house rents. The Council also approves amendments to its Constitution, agrees committee structures and appointments, and elects key leadership roles like the Mayor and Leader. It determines matters referred from committees (excluding Cabinet) and considers reports on council management. Additionally, it adopts specific licensing policies under the Gambling Act 2005 and Licensing Act 2003, and handles all other legally reserved functions.
