Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Kingston upon Thames and are not the council. About us
The Council of Kingston upon Thames will consider conferring the title of Honorary Alderman on two former councillors. The meeting's agenda also includes standard procedural items.
Proposed Appointment of Honorary Alderman
The council is scheduled to consider conferring the title of Honorary Alderman on former councillors Liz Green and Diane White. This honour is established practice for councillors who have left office, have served for 12 or more years, and do not intend to seek re-election. Both former councillors have indicated their eligibility and intention not to stand again for election. The conferral of this honour requires a two-thirds majority of those present and voting at a special council meeting. If approved, arrangements will be made for the new Honorary Aldermen to be formally installed at the council meeting on 13 October 2026, with the customary presentation of a framed illuminated scroll. The council has been recommended to resolve that, pursuant to the provisions of Section 249 of the Local Government Act, 1972, and in recognition of the eminent service that they have rendered to the Council as past Members, the title of Honorary Alderman of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames be conferred on former Councillors Liz Green and Diane White.
